As we move through the year and climatize to the multiple different seasons, it is always best to look after your garden fence. Below Reshape Landscapes has noted the top 5 key pieces of advice to getting the most out of your garden fence:

Tip 1: Reseal and Revive

When your fence first gets installed it’s likely it was treated with wood preserve, this is to protect your fence against rot and water damage. After a few years the preserve can get patchy therefore, it needs reapplying. Simply strip the fence of the old preserve and reapply with the new. Another option is to use exterior paint.

Tip 2: Sinking Sections

If parts of your fence have started to become uneven or wobble it is usually due to rot therefore, it’s critical to address these as soon as possible to stop it effecting other areas of the fence. As fences are in sections it’s easy to just replace the uneven or wobbly sections. If you do not replace these sections, it will only get worse and can affect other parts of the fence which it is attached to

Tip 3: Fatal Fungi

As we endure multiple different weather types throughout the year it is important to protect your fences. The mixture of different weather types can encourage fungus to grow on wooden fences. If left to its own accord it will weaken the fence as well as visibly looking worn. It’s recommended to scrub these off with a stiff brush dipped in water and vinegar. After completed you should hose the fence down. For more stubborn problems it’s recommended to use a pressure washer on a low setting to remove these small yet damaging fungus.

Tip 4: Small but Mighty

Sometimes a little means a lot and that’s the same for your fences. If you see a slight split, screw loose or gap, sorting these small imperfections make a big difference. Simply screw in the loose screws and use water proof glue and a clamp to repair splits. These will help out the longevity of your fence in the long run.

Tip 5: Time to Upgrade

Finally, sometimes a bit of love and care isn’t enough and you need to reinvest in a more up to date and stronger fence. Investing in composite fences near enough eliminates all the previous issues with wooden fences however, they do come with their own problems.
